Some of our recent projects
Jellinbah Mine
MacKellar has a proud history of working with Jellinbah mine for over 30 years as a valued and trusted partner.
In 1989, MacKellar was involved in the initial mine development and boxcut operations with small civil sized dump trucks, scrapers and excavators and today are the exclusive provider of water trucks to the site. MacKellar continue to provide support and operate as part of the integrated Jellinbah team. Jellinbah has trusted MacKellar to deliver safe and efficient services continually over this time. We also still provide management and operation of Jellinbah’s product stockpile at the Boonal JV rail loadout facility.
Whilst our services have varied over the years MacKellar has always had a presence at Jellinbah mine to support their operations through peaks and troughs in production requirements depending on market conditions.
Carmichael Coal Mine
Carmichael mine is a greenfields coal mine site in the Galilee Basin. MacKellar have been engaged to provide full mining services with a goal to produce 10M t of coal during 2021.
With MacKellar currently providing clear and grub, topsoil removal and a mining box cut we have grown to provide the majority of services at this new mine.
Utilising the clients Cat 796 fleet being loaded by Liebherr 996B and 9800 Excavators coupled with MacKellar's own Cat 789C and related mining fleet we are set to deliver on these milestones.
Currently we are constructing workshops, industrial areas, haul roads and ramps to mining pits providing an end to end service.
Toowoomba Second Range Crossing
MacKellar provided bulk earthmoving services to Nexus Infrastructure for the construction of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing for the Eastern sections of the bypass project. With volumes in excess of 4 Million BCM we delivered the package with precision and a strong focus on safety over 17 months. Our fleet consisted of a fleet of 777 trucks and articulated trucks being loaded by 65 to 120 tonne excavators.
Some of the detailed work required drill and blast near infrastructure like major powerlines. MacKellar engaged many of the local indigenous groups to provide training and employment to support local communities.
Callide Coal Mine
Callide coal mine was a new project commenced in 2017 as the new owners Batchfire Resources required additional fleet. MacKellar provided dry hire and full maintenance services of a large Cat 789C fleet with other ancillary dozers, graders and water trucks.
During 2018 as a new mining pit was approved, MacKellar were successful in securing a full mining services contract involving drilling, overburden removal and coal mining so additional fleet was delivered and the team grew to approx 120 employees at this site. Part of this project, saw us providing a training and mentoring program for new industry employees.
We introduced Komatsu 930E trucks, a new Liebherr 996B Excavator, a new Cat 6040 Excavator plus multiple additional ancillary machines to support the growing operations. Our scope also grew to include rehabilitation services, dozer push and some ancillary civil earthworks.
Middlemount Coal Mine
Middlemount has evolved from a small dozer push contract in 2015 to an ongoing contract for supply of the majority of the mine’s mobile fleet including full maintenance services.
Our relationship has grown into a 10 year partnership providing services to the mine owners Yancoal and Peabody. With a loading fleet of 7 x Liebherr 996B & 9400 excavators, a fleet of 30 cat 789C & 785 mining trucks and a dozer push fleet of over 7 large Cat dozers and support fleet.
MacKellar currently run the main workshop and maintenance processes, and all the refuelling and in-pit servicing on site, placing a strong focus on safety and mine performance and profitability.
