MacKellar Group Enhances Operational Efficiency with Sleipner System at Carmichael Mine
At MacKellar Group, we’re always working to innovate and improve operations to achieve the highest levels of efficiency and productivity. In line with this commitment, we’ve successfully implemented the Sleipner system at our Carmichael mine site, delivering significant benefits in terms of equipment lifespan and operational speed.
The Sleipner system, which might resemble "training wheels" from afar, is a sophisticated solution designed to enhance the mobility of heavy-tracked equipment like excavators. By utilising Sleipner dollies, we can mount our 120-tonne excavators onto the system and tow them with CAT 777 dump trucks. This drastically reduces the time needed to relocate machinery on-site compared to traditional methods.
Sleipner’s specifications highlight that this system can cut transport times by up to 85%, directly impacting our productivity. The increased mobility provided by the Sleipner system has resulted in a 12-20% productivity boost, enabling us to complete tasks more quickly and efficiently.
In addition, the system offers substantial cost savings by reducing wear and tear on excavator undercarriages. Transporting the equipment on rubber wheels instead of tracks can double or even triple the undercarriage lifespan, significantly lowering maintenance costs.
Our Managing Director shared: “The Sleipner system has been a game-changer at Carmichael. It significantly reduces undercarriage wear and improves efficiency whenever we need to relocate an excavator. This not only saves time and money but ensures our equipment remains in optimal condition.”
The introduction of the Sleipner system at Carmichael mine is just one example of how MacKellar Group is embracing cutting-edge technology to optimise our operations. As we continue to innovate, we remain focused on enhancing productivity, reducing costs, and maintaining the highest safety standards across all our projects.
